“A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men.” – Proverbs 18:16

When I was younger, I understood this verse to mean that if you bring a physical gift, it will open doors for you – you will obtain favor from whoever you gave it to. I thought it was sort of when you bring a bottle of wine and give it to the friend who invited you for a wedding, I was wrong,
because during  weddings  some bought expensive drinks and gave to some people as a backup with invite but many years after they never heard from those people..Different people may have different opinions to this.But I am talking about that gift or talent in you.
I now understand that this verse has nothing to do with physical gifts. Rather, it speaks of the gift you carry inside. Your unique talent or ability. Those things you do better than most people effortlessly. I mean those things that when you do it, people start  commending you and ask for more. That thing that you do which comes easy to you, and yet, blesses others… that’s your gift.


All of us has a gift. Those gift was given to us by God. Unfortunately, not everybody develops their gift. Your gift was made to be given away.

You may also try and discover a talent or skill that  can help you in life.These talent ,gift or skill could also put food on your table if properly managed.

Pablo Picasso, the famous painter said:
‘. meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.’

Let’s face the reality.The right approach consists of you discovering your unique gift or ability, or talent, and serving it graciously to people. This is what will make room for you.We parents and guardians can also help our children to discover and develop their gift or talent.
When your child is coming up you need to find out his passions and guide him.
Gone are those days parents *force* their kids against their will.

I’ll give you an example:
Recently, there was a  boy called Oluomachi from Mbaise whose video was trending in social media,this boy was gifted with a fine voice but needed help to bring out the best in him.But to the glory of God ,God has visited this boy whose gift opened way for .
A scholarship has been awarded to him with lots of money.

Another great example is the story of Joseph in the Old Testament. Most of you remember the story… .

Now, knowing what I told you today, do you understand the urgency that lies behind you finding your unique gift and serving it to the world? Your gift serves a double purpose:

It blesses others, and because of that, it ends up…

Where purpose is not discovered ,abuse is inevitable . I know , you may ask, how do I discover  my gift. How do I find my purpose. I can’t go in detail here. But here are a few simple things to consider:

What do you absolutely love to do?
What do people ask more of from you. That thing that you do that makes people beg for more. Are you an amazing  Artist? Singer? Stylist, Cook? Writer?  Creative person -  etc.
Think, ponder, what is that one thing that you do better than everybody and that you love to do – chances are, this might be your unique gift to the world.
If you are a believer, ask God to reveal to you what your gift and purpose is he will reveals it to you.

THANKS FOR SUPPORTING COGMAAN 2020,KEEF FOUNDATION. Comedy and Gospel Music Artiste Awards and Talent Hunt 2020 took place at the multi purpose hall of Our Lady Catholic Church Hall Ogba Ikeja on the 9 the February 2020.
